Wellbeing at Pecan

blocks that spell wellbeing

Welcome to our July newsletter, and this month we celebrate Wellbeing at Pecan and through our services.

Pecan’s values of Kindness, Belief and Hope are the core of all we do, not only in how we work with clients but in how we look after staff wellbeing. Pecan employs a Wellbeing Lead who co-ordinates initiatives to encourage staff to achieve a healthy work life balance and access the support they need.

Pecan offer a range of wellbeing services for its  employees, including all staff being offered regular 1:1s with the Wellbeing Lead, a PCIC Qualified Coach who can help staff unpick issues and think strategically, to flexi-working, bike to work scheme and the Perkbox membership. To find out more about working at Pecan and and how we support staff, then please visit: www.pecan.org.uk/vacancies

Welcoming visitors to Pecan

‘Thank you, Pecan for all you’ve done!
We’re excited for our future collaborations to come.’
Stephan Scholl , CEO Alight Solutions

In June we welcomed visitors from Coop, Church Action on Poverty and Lucky Generals. The teams wanted to see what happens at Pecan’s food services, find out how we listen to and support our community, and to build connections with us as a charity.

The global team from Alight Solutions came to support us as charity, and they also had the chance to hear from our project leaders, visit our foodbank warehouse and the Peckham Pantry.

Women's Service

A new post | Mental Health Advisor

Women standing against a wall

We are pleased to report in Women’s Service that we have a new Mental Health Advocate who is due to start with us at the end of July!

She will join the team for four days per week and be mainly based in our Southwark Hub.

  • Her role will involve: running a monthly Mental Health drop-in for women who need advice on seeking help with this.
  • Advise team members on how best to support their clients’ mental health needs.
  • and hold her own caseload of women who need support with their mental health.

She will also build new partnerships with local NHS organisations to improve referral pathways and help to improve access to mental health services for the most vulnerable women in Southwark and Lewisham.

Peckham Pantry

Time to celebrate at the Pantry

The team at Peckham Pantry have been extremely busy this month, but found the time to welcome organisations that wanted to see and hear how the pantry operated.

However, on Wednesday 15 June, the Pantry had the most people through their doors in a day – 131 members came and shopped in the pantry. A huge well done to Temi and her team for their hard work and excellent customer service.

Southwark Food Bank

The power of connection and human interaction

Southwark Foodbank is not only just about food, but also about connection and human interaction, especially in the face of crisis.

A lack of food is not just about hunger. Food insecurity can increase the risk of anxiety, depression and other chronic conditions. The impact of poverty on mental health is immense and being pushed into poverty can cause feelings of hopelessness and distress.

At Southwark Foodbank, our welcome centres not only provide food parcels to clients, but our volunteers and members of staff are always ready to provide a safe space to listen to service users, treating everyone with compassion and dignity.

Even just a small chat can go a long way and make a big difference to someone’s day.

Tesco National Collection

From the 30 June to 2 July, Southwark Foodbank will be having Tesco National Collections in selected stores!

If you or  anyone you know would like to make a donation to the foodbank, please visit these stores:

Employment Support

Supporting clients beyond employment

At Employment Support we don’t just help people find employment, we also help them with the steps along the way to employment by providing follow up support.

We help guide our clients through the interview process, providing clothing if necessary, and even have one-to-one catch ups. This service can continue for up to a year after our clients have found employment. Our services are not only associated with employment, but we have a holistic approach and support our clients with other issues such as: housing, childcare support and any other issues they may need support with.

Our team not only helps to empower people, but aims to enable them to become a confident employee and colleague.
