Black History Month 2024

October is Black History Month and the theme is Reclaiming Narratives. Please email Together to register for events, receive information about workshops, screening and creative sessions. together@pecan.org.uk

Black History Month Quiz: In partnership with Ngozie Okorie, Founder of They Can I Can Too.

Monday 21 October | 11-2 pm

Bold Tendencies | Echoes of Baldwin, Writing Corner Creative writing inspired by the work of James Baldwin, led by Bold Tendencies Creative Learning Facilitator, Alfiah Brown.

Tuesday 29 October | 11-1 pm

Bold Tendencies Collage Workshop Inspired by the theme of reclaiming narratives participants delve into the past, present, and future creating a personal and group collage using a combination of paper, photographs, and textural elements.

Thursday 31 October | 11-1 pm

Adinkra Arts Collective Creative Writing: Led by Kunga founder | Adinkra Arts Collective. Around the theme of ‘Reclaiming Narratives’. An informal and interactive writing workshop explores taking you on a journey of reclaiming your story.

Thursday 31 October | 2-4 pm

Book Group, Owning the Narrative Led by Kunga founder | Adinkra Arts Collective. Homage to acclaimed Caribbean writers from the past. A reflection on the collective works of Black voices. Reading extracts from The Lonely Londoner by Samuel Selvon, Six Stories and an Essay by Andrea Levy, and Propa Propaganda by Benjamin Zephaniah.

Friday 1 November | Shorts 12-1 pm & Feature 2-4 pm
Film Screenings. Selection of Black filmmakers. Film shorts by Cecille Emeke, Adeyemi Michael, Comfort Arthur, and a feature ‘Gone Too Far’ by Destiny Ekaragha. Presentation and Q&A by Kunga | Adinkra Arts Collective

IT Sessions at Peckham Library
Tuesdays, from 23 July 2024
Beginners: 10am to 11am | Intermediates: 11am to 12pm

Pecan’s Employment Support are excited to offer a 10-week IT/Digital course in partnership with Peckham Library. The course is designed for beginners and intermediate learners and will be delivered by an experienced professional.

  • Coffee Morning Drop Ins: Running every Tuesday and Thursday, 10.30am-12.30pm – tea/coffee, pastries, toast, crafts, colouring, quiz books, free Wi-Fi, warm space.

  • Beginner’s Embroidery with Alyssa: 2.30pm-3.30pm at Peckham hub.
  • Hub lunch: Last Thursday of the month, 12.30-2pm.
