Christmas 2024
Help Pecan raise £35K for 35 years this Christmas
Your Gifts of Kindness, Belief and Hope can go much further than Christmas – Pecan is here all year-round providing support and advocacy to people in crisis across Southwark. This Christmas we aim to raise £35K in our 35th year to support our vital projects:
- Southwark Foodbank – Between January – September 2024 we distributed 4,000 food parcels worth £174,056 to 2,191 households with 8,406 family members of which 34% are children
- Peckham Pantry – Between January – September 2024 the pantry welcomed 1,183 households, who shopped 12,305 times saving them an estimate of £190,728.
- Together – 1,174 people were supported to access to Cost-of-Living Fund over winter 2023/2024.
- Employment Support – Funded to support parents and carers back into work through Southwark Works. Through this programme we have supported 121 people between July and October 2023 and so far, 16 people have been placed in new jobs.
- Women’s Service – We have provided 1:1 advocacy to 117 women so far in 2023/2024, and there is currently a 2-month waiting list with increasing need.
Christmas Fundraising
Peter Edwards, Pecan’s CEO, said: “We know this Christmas will be tougher than ever for many households in Southwark after years of rising food, energy and housing prices. Pecan is here to help via its foodbank, social supermarket, Women’s Services, Employment Support and community café and hub Together. We can only do this due to the constant kindness of our supporters – so please consider donating time, food or funding. Help us mark 35 years by raising £35k to restore hope for those families in need.”
How does our Christmas campaign aim to support families over the festive season and into the new year?
- £1,250 could buy 50 x £25 vouchers for single households.
- £5,000 could buy 100 x £50 vouchers for families.
- £10,000 could purchase 3.7 tonnes of food, enough for 260 packages or 2.5 weeks’ worth of emergency foodbank parcels.
- £15,000 could provide specialist 1-2-1 advocacy and advice for 6 months to people facing multiple disadvantages.
