Pecan’s Partnership Volunteer Programme
Welcome to Giada, our new Volunteer Coordinator, part of our Partnership Volunteer Programme, through corporate support.
Hi everyone, My role is focused on understanding and strengthening the volunteer experience across Pecan. Over the coming months, I’ll be spending time across our services, building relationships with volunteers and staff, listening to experiences, and learning what’s working well and where we can improve.
Volunteers are at the heart of Pecan’s work. Through their time, skills, and compassion, they help tackle poverty in Southwark, reduce loneliness and isolation, and support people to build stronger, more connected lives. My role is another part of that mission, ensuring volunteers feel valued, heard, and supported so they can continue making a meaningful difference in our community.

A key part of my role is being visible within services
A key part of my role is being visible within services, gathering feedback, sharing Pecan’s values, and understanding what helps volunteers thrive. I’ll also be reviewing our volunteering practices and collecting stories and insights to celebrate volunteer contributions and help shape future opportunities.
Ultimately, I want to help create a volunteering experience that reflects the needs of our volunteers and strengthens Pecan’s ability to tackle poverty and build community across Southwark.

Volunteers at our foodbank sessions
We currently work with around 23 volunteers, but to meet growing need, we need closer to 60.
Pecan’s Partnership Volunteer Programme brings people together to strengthen community connections and tackle poverty across Southwark. Our volunteers are at the heart of our work, supporting local people through practical help, compassion and community.
At a time when 1 in 3 Southwark residents experience loneliness often or some of the time, we believe everyone deserves to feel connected, valued and supported. Volunteering creates those connections, not only for the people we serve but for volunteers themselves.
As one of our warehouse volunteers, John*, shared:
“Volunteering at Pecan has improved my wellbeing by giving me structure, purpose and regular contact with thoughtful, supportive and funny people. Helping others has had a positive impact on my mental health too.”
