#Stopthe500 Campaign

Help #Stopthe500Places

Pecan supports the #Stopthe500Places campaign, calling on the government to stop the plans to build 500 new prison places and instead focus on reducing the women’s prison population and reoffending rates.

Pecan’s Women’s Service works closely with women re-entering the community after leaving prison through advocacy and trauma-informed support at our two hubs in Southwark and Lewisham. We see firsthand the effects of prison on women and their families and we know the value of support for women in the community.

We want to see the lives of local women transformed and better investment from the government in improving the lives of women and diverting them away from prison through community based support.

“Prison is a dead end, one that tears families and communities apart. However, the Government has announced plans to build 500 new prison places for women.”

If the Government wants to address the root causes of why women are in prison & make our communities safer it must #StopThe500 new women’s places.
