Thank You

Thank you, Supporters of Pecan and Southwark Foodbank:

Following our recent break-in at our foodbank and pantry warehouse, we have been overwhelmed with kindness from every area of our community. You all helped us to restock, repair and remind our staff how important the work we do is. Every donation to kind words and acknowledgment has been appreciated by our users, members, clients, volunteers and staff.

Pecan and Southwark Foodbank

Pecan are celebrating 35 years as the charity meeting the needs of our community in Peckham and wider Southwark. We have faced many challenges over the years, shrinking, growing and surviving the pandemic – but Pecan has remained here, providing essential services. We can only do this due to the ongoing generosity of our funders, individual donors, local businesses and community support.

‘As well as Southwark Foodbank, our charity also includes Peckham Pantry; Women’s Services; Employment Support; and Together, our community café. These services help to address the issues of poverty and alleviate the challenges that are faced by many.’

We are a Trussell Foodbank, and we want a society where everyone can afford the essentials. But we continue to provide emergency support as well as working with our members to address the underlying issues of poverty.

Each week we distribute, on average, 100 parcels that feed local households – from single to large families. As well as Southwark Foodbank, our charity also includes Peckham Pantry; Women’s Services; Employment Support; and Together, our community café. These services help to address the issues of poverty and alleviate the challenges that are faced by many.

Our Women’s Service supports women from all backgrounds, including those affected by the criminal justice system, with advocacy, drop-ins and a safe space. Our newest project, Together Community Hub, is a social area that operates as a café and warm space (Monday and Tuesday, 1-3pm), and a community venue for our free creative courses and workshops.

Employment Support is our longest running project and continues to support our community’s needs. Today, the Employment Support collaborates with community organisations for training and placements, as well as running accredited courses.
