Members Newsletter | Issue 13
Welcome to Peckham Pantry’s Summer 2024 Newsletter
Thank you to our members, donors and supporters who are continuing to keep the Pantry the first choice for many, especially when the cost of living is having an impact on food choices for people within our community.
This month we had the pleasure of a visit from Charlotte Hill, CEO of The Felix Project. She posted on LinkedIn: ‘I had an inspiring afternoon visiting Peckham Pantry and Peckham Food Bank run by our partners Pecan this afternoon. So many amazing colleagues and volunteers playing their part, and great wrap around support such as a Citizens Advice and Debt Relief Worker onsite funded by The Trussell Trust.
It’s always powerful to see where the food we rescue at The Felix Project goes and the impact it enables amazing organisations like Pecan to have.’

We were really pleased to be chosen again by South East London Giants to be their charity choice for their final match. Shahid, our Head of Food Services said: ‘Thank you for choosing Peckham Pantry as your designated charity for the footy match! We deeply appreciate everyone’s generosity in donating food items on our behalf.’
Message from South East London Giants, ‘A big thank you to @sussexswans for all your support for @pantrypeckham! Donations that will support the local community get back on their feet with the dignity to choose their own food!’

Ambassadors of the Month:
David
My name is David and I volunteer at Peckham Pantry. I’ve been working with the Pantry team for nearly four months now. I volunteer every Thursday evening for a couple of hours as this suits my work/personal life best.
I initially wanted to volunteer because I had some spare time and wanted to give something back to the community that I live in. As I had recently moved to the UK, I had also noticed how severe food poverty was, so this also motivated me to get involved.
What I’ve learned is that Peckham Pantry is more than just a place that provides an affordable shop. It is also a social outlet providing community engagement for both staff and customers alike. The Peckham Pantry team is very friendly, helpful, and work very hard to provide the service for its customers.
Working with customers is very fulfilling, and the Pantry team are good fun too! All in all, it has been a very enjoyable experience. For me, volunteering has been rewarding, develop new skills, and has helped me integrate into the community.
Jonanthan
Hi, I’m Jonathan! I started working at the Pantry in July 2023. It was the summer holidays, and I was struggling to find a job or internship, so I unfortunately had plenty of free time to spare.
Whilst lazing around at home in the summer heat, I decided that it might have been a sign from God to use the summer to do some charity. A quick search online then led me to Peckham Pantry, as it was the closest charity to my home. I picked up my first shift and have since never stopped. Volunteering at the Pantry has brought me much joy. To know that my time spent helping people in need made my summer more fulfilling.
The hard work and dedication of every member of the Pantry only served to encourage me to work harder in my own way. I loved coming up with new ideas and solutions to help the Pantry, and that is why I decided to help the Pantry create a new system for tracking its produce. The team has made me feel like a valued member, something very rare in most businesses. Therefore, even after my summer ended, I was determined to make time at least once a month to come to the Pantry to help. Though I came to the Pantry for personal reasons, the community was what made me stay.
I cannot recommend the Pantry enough to both customers and anyone looking to volunteer. The food is delicious, the price is low, and the community is amazing! I look forward to the Pantry growing larger and I wish to be there every step of the way!
