Pecan’s Employment Support Team Gears Up for a New Chapter

For the past two years, Pecan’s Employment Support Team has quietly transformed lives, one client at a time. From our base in Southeast London, we have welcomed parents, unpaid carers, and over-50s into a non-judgemental, supportive environment where everyone is treated with care, kindness, and the respect they deserve.

Reflecting on this period, it’s clear how much progress has been made. In the past year alone, over 321 new clients registered with us across our various contracts. Many came to us feeling unsure of their direction or disconnected from the world of work. Through our dedicated support, they’ve found renewed purpose and the confidence to take their next steps.

Supporting People

‘… so far, 182 clients have gained recognised qualifications, 157 have moved into sustainable employment, and 42 have progressed into better-paid roles or extended contracts.’

Returning to work after time away, especially due to caring responsibilities, health challenges, or long-term unemployment, can be daunting. That’s why our team of experienced, empathetic advisers focuses on more than simply job searching. We take the time to listen. We help people explore their transferable skills, rebuild their confidence, and move forward at their own pace. One-to-one guidance, tailored CV and application support, and thorough interview preparation, including referrals for interview clothing to help clients feel their best – are all part of our approach.

We understand that meaningful employment also begins with the right tools. To that end, we run in-house training programmes and work closely with Lewisham College and other partners to offer accredited qualifications in sectors such as education, hospitality, care, and security. So far, 182 clients have gained recognised qualifications, 157 have moved into sustainable employment, and 42 have progressed into better-paid roles or extended contracts. These numbers represent real people whose lives have changed for the better.

Changing Lives

At the heart of our service is the relationship between each client and their adviser. Many clients speak of the trust and rapport they build with our team, something we consider essential to creating a safe space where people feel supported, can ask questions, and have the confidence to grow.

One particularly proud moment came recently when our Contract and Employment Team Manager, Gbemi, was awarded a medal by the Girdlers Company in recognition of her outstanding work in the community. Her leadership, warmth, and advocacy for clients have played a huge role in our success. The award is a fitting reflection of her impact and dedication.

‘Her impact is immeasurable, and her dedication is truly inspiring.

Looking Ahead

With the renewal of our employment support contract confirmed from 1 July 2025, we are excited to continue this mission with the same compassion and commitment that have defined our work to date. Our goal remains clear: to provide a holistic, person-centred service that not only helps people find work, but also restores their confidence, dignity, and hope.

We’re ready to welcome more local people, meet them where they are, and support them in taking those often life-changing steps towards employment.

Because at Pecan, we believe employment support isn’t just about finding a job, it’s about finding your place, your potential, and your voice.
