#5WeeksTooLong

Join the Trussell Trust’s #5WeeksTooLong campaign

A record 1.6m food bank parcels were given to people in the past year – this is not right. But there are ways to fix this situation – that’s why we’re calling for an end to the five week wait for a first Universal Credit payment.

Pecan and the Southwark Foodbank support the #5weekstoolong campaign.

For every person who makes an application to go onto Universal Credit, there is a waiting period. This period is a minimum of 5 weeks, and we have had people tell us they have waited up to 12 weeks for their first Universal Credit payment.

The Trussell Trust is campaigning for the government to remove the 5 week wait so that people on low income are not thrown into crisis when applying for Universal Credit.

Ask the Chancellor to end the 5 week wait for a first Universal Credit Payment.
