As the year comes to a close, we are preparing for a busy winter season, with more clients facing crisis and needing support as the winter months set in. This is our last email until the New Year, so we want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas!
We’re appealing to our community to support us this winter through our two appeals:
- We have launched our Give the Gift of Hope this Christmas campaign! Click here to take a look.
- Southwark Foodbank has joined with Trussell Trust to launch their Feed a Family Christmas campaign! Click here to take a look.
Pecan Christmas Appeal 2021
Our Christmas Appeal is live! This year, we are asking our community to come together and help local people who face crisis, financial strain, unemployment to give the gift of Hope and support our community work, giving hope of a better future to our clients and Give the Gift of Hope this Christmas
We have felt how the past year has been a strain on local people in Southwark. With the rising cost of living being an added burden to our community, the energy cap going up and the £20 cut to Universal Credit, many people are more vulnerable to going without heating or food, which should never be the case.
Pecan is dedicated to the holistic support of our local community and provides support to some of the most marginalized and vulnerable people in Southwark. In the spirit of giving Hope this festive season we are asking our community to support local and help those most in need in Southwark this Christmas.
All of our projects from the Southwark Foodbank to Women’s Services, Employment Support, HOurBank, and Peckham Pantry, rely on our community to support them and by donating to Pecan, you support each one of these projects and make a tangible difference in people’s lives.
A team from the BBC News came down to the Peckham Pantry on the 1st of December to have a look at the work that we do and ask us some questions. It was a great experience and they really appreciated all that we are doing for the community. Look out for a segment on the Peckham Pantry coming this December!
We are holding a Christmas party via Zoom on the 16th of December at 3.30pm. Our members are encouraged to dress up in their favourite Christmas outfit to get them into the festive mood if they feel up for it.
On the Friday the 17th of December, we will be doing a Christmas walk. We will be getting the train from Peckham Rye to London Bridge and walking along the river Thames to Waterloo and down to Trafalgar Square to see the Christmas tree and Christmas lights.
On Tuesday the 14th on December, we will be having a get together at All Saints Café to to wish each other Christmas greetings over muffins, mince pies and hot chocolate.
Feed a Family Christmas Appeal
This winter is a particularly difficult one for households that struggle to afford the essentials. We’re all feeling living cost increases – but we’re hearing troubling stories of people forced to face impossible decisions between basic necessities like heating or food.
This Christmas, we join with the Trussell Trust to appeal for support to help Feed a Family this winter and we have now launched our Christmas appeal, have a look!
We are looking for more volunteers to join our team in the warehouse, helping sort and pack food and keep the warehouse running smoothly. If you can give a few hours a week to support, get in touch!
Southwark and Lewisham Women’s Space
In the New Year we have two new workshops starting:
- Healthy Relationships with Alex
- Comedy with Kim
- Cat’s reading group will also return in the New Year on Zoom on Fridays.
We are sharing our 36th Wellbeing Pack this month, celebrating Christmas!
We are holding an in-person Christmas coffee morning on Thursday 16th December for our clients and our online Christmas event is on Thursday 16th December.
Education and Job Starts
Last month was a good month for Employment Support. We were able to support 24 clients into education and a further 14 clients we helped into jobs.
