Church Involvement

Pecan came into existence because churches in Peckham had a passion for seeing the transformation of a deprived area that was struggling with high levels of unemployment. Ever since its inception in 1989, churches have consistently been the back bone of Pecan under girding its work through their generous giving, prayer, assistance with recruitment of staff and volunteers and their wisdom.

At the beginning of 2006 Pecan committed itself to strengthening relationships with churches further and has begun developing projects in partnership with a few churches. The vision we have is to see lots of accessible relevant courses running from church premises where people can come to a welcoming, relaxed but professional course. Our desire is that they will lean, grow in confidence, meet other people and help to create a safer, more friendly community.

If you represent a church that is interested in running a community project  offering a service to the kind of the client groups we are working with please get in touch with Mark Scutt our Church Development Officer. We would love to meet with you and explore potential partnerships. We really believe that this is one of the things we should be doing more with churches.
