Volunteer Opportunity

It has often been said that an individual may commit a crime, but the family serves the time. The trauma and complexities of imprisonment are not limited to the offender.

Strong family relationships can help prevent prisoners re-offending, enabling them to successfully resettle into the community.

Pecan's family support work is growing, with volunteers supporting families at Court when they are bewildered by the news of the imprisonment of a loved one. Volunteers are available to families and offer further support from Pecan's family support workers who offer a range of services, including: providing information on imprisonment and family contact, supporting families as they adapt to their new situation, preparing families and offenders for release, helping families to take realistic steps to achieve their goals, offering advice and support with issues such as housing, debt, drugs and alcohol addiction, children's services, family mediation, counselling.

Volunteers are urgently needed for Pecan's Family Support Work, at Greenwich Magistrates' Court and also Woolwich Crown Court. If you would be interested in supporting Pecan in this way, call Catherine Kearney or Rita Quarry on 020-7940 8250 to find out more.
